Sport England aims to help people and communities by investing in organisations and projects that will increase sports participation and create opportunities for people to excel.
Its small grants programme looks to help four priority areas including projects that increase the number of 14- to 25-year-olds playing sport once a week, and projects that look to reduce the drop off rates in sport for 16- to 24-year-olds. It also aims to grow participation among people with disabilities.
Who will it fund?
The small grants will fund non-profit organisations and statutory bodies such as sports clubs, local authorities, voluntary organisations, governing bodies of sport, and schools. It will not fund individuals, organisations outside of the UK, sole trader or partnership, or organisations established to make a profit. Those looking to use a grant to support young people aged 13 and under need to demonstrate how the project directly supports Sport England's objectives.
How much is available?
Through Lottery funding the charity awards grants of between £300 and £10,000. Between 2009 and 2014 a total of £33.5m was given out through the small grants initiative. Successful projects must be deliverable within 12 months and provide a monitoring report within 13 months. Furthermore the total project cost should not exceed £50,000.
What is the deadline?
There is no deadline but application forms should be sent in at least three months prior to the project starting. Once an application has been assessed projects will find out whether they have been successful through writing.
