Mark Gifford joined the organisation from a senior management role at Waitrose in March 2020, just weeks before then-Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced the first Covid-19 lockdown.

He will officially leave the Trust in late autumn to become chief executive of a housing association based in Oldham, Greater Manchester.

Gifford said his decision to step down was due to a “personal change, with a role closer to my home in the North West”.

Under his leadership, the NCS – David Cameron’s flagship youth services programme - moved away from its solely residential offer to a year-round programme which includes local volunteering opportunities alongside residentials and online activities.
