The foundation supports projects that aim to improve the natural world, secure a fairer future and strengthen community bonds. These core values are outlined in Esmée Fairbairn Foundation’s 2020-25 strategy, which also identifies key priorities within these missions for the coming five years. To protect and improve the natural world, the foundation will focus on improving species health and habitats, clean and healthy freshwater, and sustainable and ethical farming and fishing.

To secure a fairer future, it will prioritise arts and creativity, children and young people’s rights, racial justice, gender justice and migrant justice.

To strengthen communities, it will fund projects that involve communities working together for change, community-driven enterprise and regeneration, and community-led art and creativity.
