Statutory duties …

 As part of a central review of statutory duties, the Department for Communities and Local Government has published an initial list of more than 1,200 statutory duties on local government. This includes some 200 which are the responsibility of the Department for Education. Beyond the intention to simplify, this is really useful, as this is the first occasion when all these duties have been published together. It’s worth printing out by all local authorities; if you don’t know the statutory basis for your actions, you will always be on the back foot.
