The Department for Children, Schools and Families poll of 13- to 15-year-olds found seven out of 10 young people wanted to know exactly what goes into their school dinners.
More than 80 per cent of respondents also wanted their school to use renewable energy and harvest rainwater.
Junior youth minister Kevin Brennan said: These figures show that young people really care about sustainability issues.
