Youth services: Review will lobby for service equality

By , Wednesday 19 July 2006

The Make Space Youth Review launches this week with the aim of putting provision for young people on an equal footing with children's services.

The 12-month review covers young people aged 11 to 18, principally 11- to 16-year-olds. It will consist of youth forums, UK and international research, specialist seminars, written and verbal submissions, regional events and review meetings.

Oona King, co-chair of the review and former Labour MP for Bethnal Green and Bow, said: "My primary interest in getting involved with the review is to campaign for more services for young people."

Initial review research suggests only 61 per year per 11- to 16-year-old is spent on statutory youth services.

Make Space is youth charity 4Children's network of clubs for young people, supported by the Nestle Trust.
