Best thing I ever did: Mohammed Sufi, 17, London

By , Wednesday 20 April 2005

I became a Member of the UK Youth Parliament (MYP) for Westminster after a youth worker came to our school and told us about it. I wrote a manifesto on the issues I'd like to tackle. It's because of deprivation and poverty that we get things such as antisocial behaviour and crime. I've seen first hand the tensions between young people living on my estate and others and I wanted to bring the different sides together.

Being an MYP is about giving things back to my community. It makes me feel responsible for issues young people are facing and I hope the role can develop my communication skills. If I manage to make any changes, this will be one of the best things I've ever done.
