Don't miss: Teens on Trial

By , Wednesday 09 March 2005

Teens on Trial - Channel 4, 14-18 March, 11.10am-1.40pm (extra episode on 15 March at 10.40am)

At the Red Hook Youth Court in Brooklyn, New York, young offenders are "tried" in a real courtroom, but with their peers as the prosecution and defence lawyers.

An adult judge and a teenage jury then determine the sentence, usually community service, if the young person is found guilty. Teens on Trial adapts this idea for the UK using participants from 30 schools around the UK.

Cases include a graffiti artist who was ordered to clean the streets, a binge drinker who was referred to counselling and a shoplifter who was sentenced to return the stolen clothes to the store and work there for a day.
