Since then the government has appointed a group of experts to work out how to do this and this group is now seeking ideas and comments to help it develop the proposal further.

Although the government has yet to decide what "zero-carbon emissions" will mean in reality, the consultation asks for ideas on how education can be delivered in a more environmentally-friendly way and how data on school emissions can be gathered.

It also seeks ideas on how schools can make more use of energy supplies that produce no emissions, such as wind and solar power, and how schools can cut electricity use as newer technology is adopted.

In order to support pupils' awareness of the environment, the paper asks for ideas on how to make children and young people aware of efforts to cut emissions within the school, and how the curriculum can change to improve their understanding of green issues.
