Who can apply? Applications are welcomed from registered charities in England, Wales and Scotland. The trust puts a particular emphasis on organisations that have a proven model and want to expand. Funds may be sought not only for service delivery but also for the development of policy, advocacy and research.
What will it fund? The trust funds projects that aim to strengthen family relationships. This could include help for families with a member who is terminally ill or disabled, tackling social isolation by building networks, or improving family cohesion through drop-in centres and intensive family support. The trust also funds projects to support educational opportunities for disadvantaged people, with a particular interest in Catholic schools and social teaching.
How much is on offer? The trustees meet several times a year to discuss grant applications, which are assessed by the Derwent Charitable Consultancy. The trust is more interested in funding larger projects and most grants are for more than £10,000. However, it will not provide grants to individuals, high-profile appeals, major capital projects or building restoration.
How to apply: Applicants are asked to send an outline of the project, including a breakdown of project costs and a signed set of their most recent audited accounts. There is no deadline as funding decisions are made throughout the year. For more information, go to www.watersidetrust.org.
