The Young Carers Access to Sport project in Tower Hamlets, which is aimed at carers aged between eight and 25 who look after adult relatives, will get £44,169.
Other schemes being funded by the grants from Sport England, Pro-Active East London and several partner organisations include: Sidelined, a Bexley-based initiative providing fitness activities for parents who go to watch their children take part in sport; and the Youth Sport Project in the City of London, which offers extra-curricular competitions.
Sean Holt, regional director of Sport England London, said: "The investment is one of the largest of its kind from Sport England London in 2008. The grants will go a long way towards helping improve participation levels and allowing priority groups, ranging from those with disabilities to ethnic minorities, to access sport."
