CWDC abandons apprentice plan

Plans to develop a cross-sector apprenticeship for the children's workforce have been dropped.
The plans had been under consideration by the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC). The qualification was intended to make it easier for young people to start a career in the sector, with apprentices getting the chance to train across a range of disciplines.
But a CWDC spokeswoman said the plans had to be dropped because they were too generic to meet apprenticeship specifications, which require trainees to be competent in a specific discipline.
