Education on the dangers of smoking is to be stepped up in Scottish schools as part of a stop smoking action plan.

The Scottish government's Scotland's Future is Smoke-Free: A Smoking Prevention Action Plan aims to highlight the risks of smoking.

As part of the scheme, the government wants to promote healthy lifestyles, decrease the attractiveness of cigarettes and reduce opportunities for young people to be exposed to smoking.

It also plans to enforce the law to avoid cigarette sales to minors and make tobacco less affordable.

Public health minister Shona Robison said: "Protecting young people from the impact of tobacco must be paramount."
