Training boost for play sector
Tuesday, 19 January 2010
The sector skills council for playwork will create a network of high-quality training providers in an effort to increase the number of qualified workers in the sector.
SkillsActive made the pledge as it launched a consultation this week outlining its vision for playwork.
The council has made increasing the number of fully qualified playworkers its main objective, in response to the government target of getting 4,000 playworkers to reach Level 3 by 2011. It also intends to provide clearer information on training opportunities.
A spokeswoman said: "We need qualifications that are valued by employers and the workforce, and high-quality training opportunities available across the UK."
SkillsActive has launched an 11-week consultation open to anyone with an interest in playwork, particularly practitioners, policymakers and training providers.
