Ofsted urged to consider fathers

Thursday, 03 December 2009

Ofsted must begin assessing how effectively services engage with fathers, according to a think-tank.

David Bartlett, deputy chief executive of the Fatherhood Institute, said that Ofsted must do more to ensure services gather contact details for fathers and stay in touch with them. "Within the inspection framework Ofsted needs to develop a more gender-specific approach," he said.

He added that the watchdog needs to assess the gender balance of the workforce, and that schools should be judged on how they address gender equality.
