Personal advice strategy needed

Thursday, 29 October 2009

Youth Access director Barbara Rayment has urged the government to issue a separate strategy on advice for young people on personal and social issues, arguing the information, advice and guidance (IAG) strategy fails to do so.

While broadly welcoming this week's document, Rayment said such a move is required to help young people through housing, finance and family problems. "It will be important that the term IAG does not simply become shorthand for careers advice," she warned. "Young people can't avail themselves of all that advice if some of their more basic needs are not met."
