Woman charged in child sex case worked at a nursery
By Shafik Meghji Wednesday, 14 October 2009
A pregnant mother of eight charged in connection with the Vanessa George paedophile ring also worked at a nursery.
Tracy Lyons volunteered on two occasions at the privately-run Izzies Nursery in Portsmouth, but was fully supervised at all times, according to a statement issued on behalf of the nursery by Portsmouth City Council.
Lyons is in custody accused of sexual abuse of a child and taking and distributing indecent images of a child.
The statement said: "We can confirm that Tracy Lyons did voluntary work at Izzies Nursery on two afternoon sessions in July 2008. The exact dates are currently being confirmed.
"We would like to stress that at no time was Tracy Lyons ever left alone with any child. She was fully supervised at all times.
"An enhanced CRB check was completed in advance of Tracy beginning her voluntary work at Izzies. Therefore we have no reason to believe at this stage that any child at Izzies nursery was put at risk."
