BAAF finds families for more children
By Ross Watson Monday, 05 October 2009
The British Association for Adoption and Fostering has experienced a 38 per cent increase in the number of families it has found for children in the past year, according to the latest statistics.
The findings were released by BAAF in preparation for National Adoption Week, which runs from 9-15 November.
BAAF found families for more than 500 children between April 2008 and March 2009. Methods included matching up children to parents on the Adoption Register, events, promotional materials and online and regional services.
Mo O'Reilly, director of child placement services at BAAF, said: "There are still lots of children waiting and we must find new ways to find them the right families. In the forthcoming year, we hope to introduce new family finding initiatives and expand schemes such as our online video project."
Children who often have to wait the longest to find families include those in sibling groups, older children, those with disabilities and black and ethnic minority children.
