NCB chief appointed chair of CWDC

By Stuart Derrick Friday, 03 July 2009

National Children's Bureau (NCB) chief executive Paul Ennals has been appointed chair of the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC).

Ennals takes up the position on 1 August succeeding acting chair Dorit Braun, who has been in post since former chair Michael Leadbetter died of cancer in April. The appointment is for three years and he will continue to head up the NCB.

Ennals said: "I have long believed that the transformation of the children and youth workforce is the key to improving outcomes for children and young people, and CWDC is right at the heart of that process."

Ennals was CWDC's shadow chair when it launched in April 2005. He currently chairs the Children's Workforce Network, which brings together major agencies concerned with the children's workforce. He is also vice chair of the Children's Inter-Agency Group, a national group of key statutory and voluntary agencies, and heads up NCB's partnership role within the Centre for Excellence and Outcomes in Children and Young People's Services.

As part of sector skills council Skills for Care and Development, the CWDC is responsible for social care and early years.
