Locals help rescue crime-hit club
Wednesday, 01 July 2009
A Cambridgeshire youth club targeted by burglars has reopened after receiving a flurry of donations from the community.
Waterbeach Action for Youth (WAY) was forced to close its youth club after being burgled for the second time this year. Around £4,000 of equipment was taken in the burglaries.
However, the club was only closed for one night after residents and local businesses rallied together to raise funds for the club. Two computers were donated and £500 was raised to restock food and drink.
The club was also offered the opportunity of having a new burglar alarm system fitted. Suzy Kay, administration clerk at the WAY Project, said the club had been "overwhelmed with local support".
