Last allotment of Myplace fund open to bids
By Janaki Mahadevan Friday, 05 June 2009
The last tranche of Myplace funding has been opened to bids.
The most deprived communities in England will be able to apply for a slice of the remaining £31.6m set aside to transform youth facilities across the country.
Grants ranging between £1m and £5m will be on offer to applicants who must have worked with young people in their designs.
Announcing the bid today, outgoing children's minister Beverley Hughes, said: "Giving access to safe places for young people to go to will help tackle antisocial behaviour and provide all young people the opportunity to re-engage with their communities."
Last month, CYP Now reported that the Big Lottery Fund, which manages the Myplace fund, has tightened the rules for the final round.
Only centres in the most deprived areas in England will be able to apply, while only those that have already invested "significant energy" in well-developed plans will be considered.
So far the Myplace scheme has seen £240m of grants awarded to 62 projects.
