Youth coalition sets out manifesto

By Janaki Mahadevan Wednesday, 15 April 2009

A manifesto for young people setting out demands to the main political parties has been drawn up by a group of national youth organisations.

The Coalition for Young People, which launched at last year's party conferences, is calling for  more investment to create "excellent" facilities for young people in their community, subsidised public transport for under-18s and help, information and advice for all young people, with personalised support packages for those who need it.

The coalition partners are the National Youth Agency, 4Children, Clubs for Young People, National Children's Bureau, the National Council for Volunteer Youth Services, UK Youth and the UK Youth Parliament.

Anne Longfield, chief executive of 4Children, said: "Although there will be huge competition across all political parties in the run up to the next election, we need to keep young people's needs at the centre of all policy and decision making.

"This goes beyond any particular policy areas -  it is about raising young people up the political agenda at such a critical time."
