CWDC launches youth work apprenticeship survey

The Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) has launched an online survey as part of a feasibility study into the development of a "common apprenticeship" for youth work.

The survey is aimed at workers and volunteers involved in youth work, Connexions services, youth justice, sports, mentoring, counselling and those who deal with issues such as teenage pregnancy and substance misuse.

Questions cover the demand for apprenticeships, the need for a common standard, and the funding, information and support needs of employers, trainers and apprentices.

Apprenticeships - which are work-based programmes that enable people to earn a wage and receive structured training in their chosen occupation - are open to young people aged 16 to 25.

The survey seeks practitioners' views on the preferred types of apprenticeships and the barriers to developing them.
