Police support officers get play training
By Ross Watson Friday, 31 October 2008
Play workers have been training police and community support officers in the south-west.
Voluntary organisation the Play and Early Years Training Unit has been working with Avon and Somerset Constabulary to pilot a play training workshop aimed at police community support officers in the Bristol area.
Eighteen officers took part in the workshop, which aimed to give them a greater understanding of play and to support them in developing positive relationships with children and young people.
A PEYTU spokesperson said feedback from the training day was positive and the organisation hopes Bristol City Council will work with it to roll out the initiative city-wide.
Bristol is one of the 20 pathfinder local authorities that have been funded by the government through the National Play Strategy published in April to explore and test out new approaches to play services.
