Guidance issued for SEN support

Wednesday, 24 September 2008

The Department for Children, Schools and Families has issued new standards guidance for special educational needs (SEN) support services in schools.

Although not legally binding, the new standards provide a minimum benchmark for services and reflect the indicators that inspectors will consider as part of the forthcoming comprehensive area assessments of local authorities.

It suggests providers collect regular feedback from children, young people and parents to help inform the development of services. Head teachers are also advised to develop a clear vision for their services, which embraces diversity and fosters a culture of constant improvement. The guidance also includes a framework for self-evaluation.
