Parents demand Early Years Professionals
Thursday, 10 July 2008
Parents want their children to be looked after in nurseries and pre-schools which have an Early Years Professional (EYP), a new survey has found.
Research by the Children’s Workforce Development Council (CWDC) found seven out of ten parents who are aware of Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) want their children at childcare with an EYP on board.
Nine out of ten parents supported the government’s aim to have an EYP in every childcare setting by 2015.
The survey of more than 1,000 mothers and fathers across England with children aged five and under found 24 per cent had heard of EYPS.
One in two parents said they had moved their child out of a nursery at some stage, and feeling staff were not qualified enough was cited as one of the reasons why.
Thom Crabbe, national development manager for early years at CWDC, said: “The growing number of EYPs is good news for early years services. As this figure grows so too will parents’ awareness and expectations.”
There are currently more than 1,700 EYPs across England.
