Support network for professionals working with migrant young

By Sarah Cooper Tuesday, 03 June 2008

Professionals who work with migrant children will be able to share ideas through a new support network.

The Children in Wales initiative will let people who work with children of migrant workers come together to discuss problems, share ideas and seek help.

Children of migrant workers face issues such as problems with language, which may make it hard for them to get the best out of education and other services.

Sean O'Neill policy director for Children in Wales, said: "We know that difficulties can arise when settling into a new environment, in terms of their schooling, finding suitable housing and negotiating their way around all the health, legal and support services.

"By setting up this network we hope to be able to support professionals better to help overcome some of these barriers."

The first meeting will be on Tuesday 3 June.
