The study examined the deaths of 957 children and found suicide was the second biggest cause of non-natural deaths, after road accidents, with a rate of 0.9 per 100,000 11- to 17-year-olds. According to the Office for National Statistics the suicide rate is 0.3 per 100,000. Of the 26 suicides, 20 were carried out by hanging, while other methods including poisoning and jumping.
