Ofsted workers strike for fair pay
By Cathy Wallace Friday, 16 May 2008
One thousand Ofsted workers walked out today in a strike over pay.
The members of trade unions Unison and PCS were protesting against a new pay structure and a pay deal they claimed to be below the rate of inflation.
Unions said a wave of industrial action would follow the strike, including members working to contracted hours only and refusing to do overtime.
Rallies will also be held in Manchester and London.
Unison general secretary, Dave Prentis, said: "This strike sends a clear message to Ofsted that we are prepared to take action in our fight for fair pay."
