Uniformed youth work: Scouts face lack of adult volunteers

The Scout Association has been left with an increasing shortage of leaders after its largest membership rise for 22 years.
Over the past 12 months its youth membership has risen by 3.7 per cent, bringing the total number of members to 450,000.The surge has left the association with a shortfall of 6,400 adult volunteers, and 32,000 young people registered to become Scouts who are currently unable to do.

Chief Scout Peter Duncan said: "Our adult volunteers are what makes Scouting such a success, and without them there would be no Scout groups. We want to make it as easy as possible for adults to volunteer. It's vital that we keep recruiting volunteers."
