Third of young people feel impact of terrorism

By Tom Lloyd Thursday, 17 April 2008

One in three young people feel they have been affected by terrorism, according to a UK Youth Parliament poll.

The study of around 300 young people from the East Midlands found terrorism makes young people more cautious about making friends from different communities and backgrounds.

The UK Youth Parliament and the Association of Chief Police Officers are running a series of debates for young people on terrorism, beginning with an event at the US Embassy in London.

Andy Hamflett, chief executive of the youth parliament, said: "Many young people feel that terrorism has had a major impact on their lives, but they are afraid to talk about it."
