Cuts on the horizon for Suffolk children's centres

By Joe Lepper Friday, 22 February 2008

Children's centres being set up across Suffolk could face reducing services as councillors consider funding cuts.

Suffolk County Council says the cost of running all 35 centres could be as much as £4.6m a year but it is looking at plans to reduce this to just £3.5m.

In a report to councillors Viki Muller, head of early years, childcare, extended schools and integrated youth services, said this would mean offering a more basic level of service.

She also warned that such a move could compromise centres’ ability to make a difference to families’ lives.

Members of the resources, performance and finance scrutiny committee will consider the cuts when they meet on February 26.
