Big society council plans to slash Connexions budget

One of the government's flagship big society councils has announced plans to slash its Connexions funding by £375,000.
The Royal Borough Of Windsor and Maidenhead’s cabinet is to discuss the cuts when it meets on Thursday (29 July).
A spokeswoman said that the cut was necessary, as the council’s £1.1m grant for information and advice services to young people has been cut by 24 per cent this year.
She confirmed that the council is looking to reduce funding for Connexions by £375,000 but said it was too early to say how many jobs will be cut. Connexions in the area employs 19.4 full-time-equivalent members of staff.
Windsor and Maidenhead was one of five areas named by David Cameron last week as pilot sites for his big society agenda, where local charities and community groups run public services.
The council spokeswoman said there was no link between plans to cut Connexions funding and this agenda.
