Raising the profile of science in schools and society

The seminar will examine key elements of the government's science strategy, Science and Society, as the five Expert Groups tasked with delivering its key objectives begin work. Sessions will examine how a more science literate society can be created, the strengths and weaknesses of the current system of science education including how the quality of science learning in schools can be improved and student take-up of science subjects, especially at A Level can be increased. The seminar will also look at how more young people can be encouraged to choose science as a career and examine the skills needs of the science industry and the contribution science makes to the UK economy.
