Organisations seeking to take on the functions of The College of Social Work (TCSW) have been given a week to put forward their case.
With TCSW set to close in September due to financial problems, the organisation is currently working on “transition arrangements”.
A document published by the college yesterday sets out the formal process for inviting organisations to express interest in taking on responsibility for some of its functions.
These include:
- The professional capabilities framework (PCF) – the national professional framework for social workers at all stages in their careers
- TCSW publications – including reports, the College’s Social Work Matters magazine, and policy documents
- The continuing professional development (CPD) endorsement programme
- TCSW’s “legacy products”, including “reputational assets” such as representation on a range of national forums and groups
- The professional resources, knowledge and assets of TCSW’s three faculties (children and families, adults and mental health).
The college has also said it wants to discuss opportunities for the successful organisation to take control of the TCSW website.
“This would then enable the successful organisation to offer social workers information, currently held on our website, about CPD, mentoring and information about becoming a social worker,” the document states.
Interested organisations have been given until 9am on 30 July to submit an expression of interest.
Organisations bidding have been asked to demonstrate that they will be able to begin the process of working with TCSW to take on responsibilities during the week beginning 18 August, and will have completed the process by 1 September.
Earlier this month, Hilton Dawson, former chief executive of the British Association of Social Workers, said his old organisation should take on the remit of TCSW.
