Education authorities in the North West say they have no plans to sell cut-price condoms in school tuck shops.
It follows the news that a Cheshire businessman has discussed the idea with schools in the area. Simon Cole of Condom Solutions said he hoped his proposals would "stimulate conversation", but admitted he has still to talk to education officials.
Cheshire County Council said there was "no chance" of the idea being implemented.
A spokeswoman for Manchester City Council said that selling condoms in schools would not go ahead without fully consulting all interested parties first.
"The idea is to give young people the tools to act responsibly and ensure they have access to quality products," said Cole.
He defended the proposal to charge pupils for condoms, saying people were more likely to use them if they paid a nominal amount.
Cole said he would donate money to schools' sex education programmes from his profits.
