News in Brief: Death of child offence comes into force

A new offence of causing or allowing the death of a child came into force last week. The familial homicide offence, introduced in the Domestic Violence Crime and Victims Act 2004, is designed to close the legal loophole allowing people jointly accused of murder to blame each other or remain silent.
