47.8 conceptions per 1,000 girls aged 15 to 17 in 2004 (41.5 inEngland)

7.5% of live births weighed less than 2,500 grams in 2004 (7.6 per centin England)

4.8 infant deaths under one week per 1,000 women in 2004 (five inEngland)

The conception rate in Darlington has fallen by 25.3 per cent sincefigures for the teenage pregnancy strategy were first collected. Thisrepresents a fall from 116 conceptions in 1998 to 93 in 2004, a drop of23.

The percentage of conceptions that led to abortion in 2004 was 41.9compared to England's average of 46.
