Help from School-Home Support

By , Tuesday 21 September 2004

School-Home Support is a national charity that works to help children and young people make the most of the educational opportunities available to them.

For more than 20 years it has used support workers and learning mentors, working through schools, to provide more personal support to children and young people.

Staff work with a wide range of issues identified by schools, including improving attendance, support at primary to secondary transfer, family support, parental involvement and preventing exclusions.

It currently only offers training to its own workers, but it is looking to get accreditation from an external agency so it can roll out training to other education staff.

School-Home Support hopes to expand over the next five years.
