DIARY: All you need to know about ... What suits the suits wear
Friday, 08 June 2001
Style is a matter of taste. But when it comes to outfits that
inspire, Asia's ad execs are a cut above the rest.
Hong Kong:
While Hong Kongers prefer the tailor-made look, Armani takes top spot
with executives when it comes to sharp cuts that flow with the body.
The Italian knit designer label Missoni is also appreciated for its
geometry and stripes that are ideal for cooler months.
And while most are reluctant to admit it in public, many advertising
professionals in the SAR secretly own at least one Marks & Spencer's
suit.
Beijing:
The dry heat of summer in Beijing only leaves room for one label -
Zega.
Its classic feel with a twist of stylish independence helps executives
here stay cool.
Singapore:
Here, it's not the name, but the cut that counts.
A more simplistic approach is taken by professionals that feel the
summer sun all year round.
Kenneth Cole shirts and light sweaters are a must. Neither can you go
wrong with a pair of Country Road pants for a sharp and comfortable
look.
However, ad execs here stress that it's not the brand, but the cut,
material and simplicity that matters.
Those that prefer the tailored-to-fit look, say they're experimenting
with Salvatore Ferragamo's specialised service for men that delivers the
same sharp, impressive tailoring as its pret a porter collection.
Taipei:
In Taiwan, there's one brand on everyone's hips - Armani.
Why? "Well, if you have to ask that, you just don't get it," we're told.
