MEDIA BRIEFS: BARB describes research as close

Thursday, 07 February 2002

Broadcasters Audience Research Bureau (BARB) has described Carat's

research, which claimed that 14.5 million viewers watched the January 25

episode of Coronation Street, as "surprisingly close" to its own figure

of 11.2 million. Research director Tony Wearn said Carat's telephone

poll recorded people who claimed to see any part of the programme, while

the BARB data refers to the average number watching at any one time.
