Bury braced for cuts to services

Youth services in Bury in Lancashire are under threat of closure after Bury Council announced that it is considering outsourcing youth provision to save money.
A well-placed source confirmed the plans and told CYP Now that the council will tender out the youth services and will expect local voluntary organisations to bid for them. The source expressed concern that: "Bury is a small authority and it does not have a very vibrant voluntary sector."
"Obviously the worst case scenario is that jobs will be lost and centres will close," the source added.
Bury Youth Service runs five youth centres in the area, with a total staff of 48. Young people from Bury have started a campaign in protest against the plans, unofficially titled Save Our Service (SOS).
A spokeswoman at Bury Council claimed that nothing will be finalised until later this year.
