Euro funds target unemployed young people

By Tom Lloyd Friday, 09 May 2008

Projects working with young people in England who are not in education, training or employment are among those to benefit from two billion pounds of European investment.

The first European Social Fund projects to be supported under the 2007 to 2013 phase of the programme are now getting underway.

The scheme is divided into two strands: developing a skilled and adaptable workforce; and extending employment opportunities. About 80,000 young people are expected to receive support under the second strand.

Department for Work and Pensions minister James Paskitt said: "The new projects will target people who need that extra help to gain skills, find jobs and succeed at work."
