Parents taught how to talk about sex

The pilot scheme is being funded by charity Parentline Plus, and is part of the council's drive to reduce teenage pregnancy.

Parents in the parts of the city with the highest rates of teenage pregnancy will get the opportunity to attend the free courses, which begin in February.

They will learn about the best ways to talk to young people about sex and relationships, and dispel myths on the subject.

Peterborough City Council's children's centres and Peterborough Teenage Pregnancy Strategy are working with Parentline Plus on the scheme.

Jo Melvin, the teenage pregnancy coordinator, said: "Reducing teenage pregnancy is a key priority in Peterborough and this course aims to address one of the recognised risk factors for teenage pregnancy - parents who don't discuss sex and relationships with their children."
