Lambeth Council could cut funding for youth charities by 35 per cent

The move comes as the council looks to cut its total spending by around £82m over the next four years.  

A consultation into the voluntary sector funding cuts is to take place. It is expected that where funding remains, some charities may have to reapply for contracts with renegotiated terms.

A spokesman for the council said that it was "committed to keeping any reductions to an absolute minimum".

The cuts to the total budget were revealed in an emergency budget that will be voted on by the council’s cabinet on 26 July.

The plans also include measures to deal with a £100,000 cut in the Play Pathfinder grant. This includes delaying recruiting play park staff for the soon-to-be-launched Max Roach Play Park. Reductions in payments to providers of play projects in the borough are also expected.
