The government’s sustainable development watchdog last week said guidance for youth services should emphasise the importance of the environment. The Sustainable Development Commission wants to see all services for children and young people given incentives to work in a more environmentally-friendly way. The recommendations are made in a report, Every Child’s Future Matters. It likens the change needed to the government’s Sustainable Schools programme. The commission also called for more outdoor youth activities, such as conservation schemes, rather than more expensive diversionary schemes that give subsidised access to indoor sports centres. www.sd-commission.org.uk
