Roger Howard, the recently installed chief executive of Crime Concern, has big boots to fill. His predecessor, Nigel Whiskin, who held the reins for 14 years, took the crime-reduction charity from its status as a Home Office-backed start-up to a national organisation boasting 350 staff and around 60 projects, including many relating to youth offending. Crime Concern's youth-oriented anti-crime projects include Prudential 4 Youth, which gets young people involved in crime-prevention activities, and Barnet Action 4 Youth, which offers diversionary activities for 11- to 16-year-olds at risk of offending or exclusion from school.
