
The National Union of Head Teachers last week complained angrily to the home secretary about the Criminal Records Bureau and the way it had more than doubled its fees for Disclosure checks on people working with children and vulnerable adults in England and Wales. In a letter to David Blunkett, NAHT general secretary David Hart said he considered the increase from 1 July to be 'totally uncalled for' and said that raising the fee from £12 to £29 while extending the turnaround time for processing applications from three to four weeks was 'tantamount to rewarding failure'.
